The responsibility for collecting unsorted waste lies with the Municipal Governments, who deposit it in the landfill in a controlled manner.

The construction of the Sermonde and Canedo landfills incorporated best practices and technologies for environmental protection and public health, namely:

- Waterproofing of the bottom and slopes;
- Separate leachate drainage network;
- Drainage and biogas collection network;
- Groundwater quality control system.

The waste is deposited here in layers, compacted with specific machines, and then covered with soil.

Once their capacity is exhausted, the landfills will be properly processed so that they can be properly sealed.
