Suldouro will no longer accept Used Lubricating Oils at its recycling centers (Sermonde, Gestal, Lobão, Souto and Vilar do Paraíso) from June 1, 2025.

Users who regularly benefited from this service and those who may need it in the future can find alternative collection points with Sogilub (contact details available at the end of the text).

This measure, taken after ensuring that there was an alternative for the disposal of this type of waste, is applied within the scope of the public service reserve for waste management, applied to concessions such as Suldouro, from January 1, 2025, which limits the management of urban waste to the definition established in subparagraph ee) of article 3 of Annex I of Decree-Law No. 102-D/2020, of December 10.

In its current wording, Decree-Law No. 102-D/2020 defines Urban Waste as waste originating from:

1.Undifferentiated and selective collection from residences, including paper and cardboard, glass, metals, plastics, bio-waste, wood, textiles, packaging, waste electrical and electronic equipment, waste batteries and accumulators, as well as bulky waste, including mattresses and furniture; and

2. Undifferentiated and selective collection from other sources, such as retail establishments, services and restaurants, schools, healthcare facilities and tourism establishments, or others, if they are similar to household waste in nature and composition and correspond to the waste classified in the European List of Waste (ELW).

In the same Decree-Law, in article 36 of Annex I, the Portuguese Environment Agency lists hazardous household waste, which does not include Used Lubricating Oils. This is why Suldouro can no longer receive this type of waste at its recycling centers.
